employee handbooks

Employee handbooks serves as a single source reference for both managers and employees.  The benefits a handbook provides includes:

  • Setting the tone for culture and values in your most important employee policy document;
  • Establishing expectations for employees on appropriate and inappropriate behaviors and outlining consequences when those expectations aren’t met;
  • Providing clarity on pay, time recording and time off for employees; and,
  • Shielding you, as the employer, by stating your stance on harassment, discrimination and disability accommodation as well as other recommended policies to safeguard your organization.

Certain states require written policies.  For example, in Oregon, employers are required to provide written documentation on your sick leave and anti-discrimination policies.  The most obvious place for these policies is to include them in an employee handbook.

Our Process

Although there are a lot of templates out there, they tend to quickly become outdated and still require a lot of work on your part.  The advantage of using HRT Northwest is that we take on the burden of most of the effort.  We will customize the document to fit your organization while ensuring current, recommended protectionary language is included.

Once you’ve decided to use us, we will:

  • Schedule a meeting to learn about your organization:  what you value; what you think is important and any company or industry specific focus areas we should be aware of.
  • We will talk you through the entire employee life cycle to ensure the handbook reflects your actual processes.
  • Provide you with an initial draft to review based on those conversations.
  • Make any requested revisions to finalize the document.
  • If requested, we can also help you plan the rollout of the handbook to your employees.
